Seoraksan dinosaur ridge
The Sinheungsa temple was built in 653 or 637. It burned to the ground and was rebuilt twice, in 699 and 1645.
It's believed to be the oldest Zen (Seon) temple in the world.
The 15 m high Great Unification Buddha statue, called "Tongil Daebul, represents the crucial wish of the Korean people for the peacefull reunification of the divided South and North Korea. It cost $4.1 million, raised through contributions for over a decade from over 300,000 small donations from anonymous donors visiting the temple. The forehead of Tongil Daebul is adorned with eight 8-centimeter/3-inch stones of amber.
