The Haute Route is a demanding, multi-day ski tour in the heart of the Alps, traversing high-alpine, glaciated terrain with crevasses and steep passes.
Most days involve altitudes over 3500 m.
The longest (purist) variant is over 120 km long, with 10,000 m of climbing.
What's nearby:
Most of the route is at high altitudes, over 3500 m. You'll see spectacular glacier crevasses and 4k giants.
You'll see:
Mont Blanc (4807 m)
Matterhorn (4478 m)
Dent Blanche (4357 m)
Grand Combin (4309 m)
Dent d'Hérens (4173 m)
Auguille Verte (4121 m)
It's primarily a hut-to-hut tour. You'll encounter long descents, but conditions are highly dependent on weather and temperature, ranging from a frozen crust that will test your skills to ugly rotten snow that will test your enthusiasm:) Powder downhills are just a bonus.
Climbs are long and sometimes steep. Some passes involve a bit of climbing on crampons on steep slopes over 35° or in rocky terrain.
