Passo delle Erbe / Würzjoch (1987 m)
Hut open: June – Half October: €35-79
There is a famous view of Seceda nearby. You might make it there if you are quick or divert a route there instead of the Sass Rigais via ferrata the next day.
The famous Via alta 2 also shares a part via Forcella Mont dal'Ega (2642 m) pass here.
Rifugio Ncisles / Firenze / Regensburgerhütte (2037 m)
7.5 h: 16.7 km 1000 m up over 2630 m 1000 m down (4.7 h moving)
Mostly easy hike with two steep climbs; the second one in a scree.
A seep climb
Meadows
Rifugio Genova / Schlüterhütte (2306 m) midway offers an opportunity to refresh. They are a part of a local food path, that marks quality local food.
A steep climb to Forcella Mont dal'Ega (2642 m) pass in a scree
A steep descent in a scree and then mostly flat
Rifugio Ncisles / Firenze / Regensburgerhütte (2037 m)
Nice sunrises and sunsets at the start (and end) of the hike.
Worth taking a walk in meadows towards sheds at the Biotop Börz / Würzjochmoos.
What's nearby:
Via ferrata as a side-trip from the pass Furcela da Mesdì.
Side-trip: Via Ferrata Sass Rigais (3025 m): moderately difficult
2 h: 2.9 km 440 m up over 3025 m 440 m down (1.5 h moving)
Difficulty B/C: 3-4 h: 2h+ from the Mittagsscharte - Furcela da Mesdì (2600 m) pass.
The time at max speed, breathing hard:) I was speeding because I did it just alone and didn't want my slower half to wait for me too long.
Some do it as a longer round trip, traversing via the eastern peak back to the Ncisles hut instead.
The higher path (as we did it) is technically a bit harder, so better to climb up. You also save some climbing altitude in this direction.
There used to be a gap to cross, but it was bridged by a log.
There are nice views from the very top. Otherwise, I did not find it that interesting.
The direct path to Santa Maddalena is just a hike crossing the pass Mittagsscharte - Furcela da Mesdì (2600 m).
There is a nice Waldschenke restaurant with a good cuisine at the end of the descent to Santa Maddalena. But its kitchen is not alway open – check times if you want to eat!
Bus 200 m above Maddalena
It's better to climb up a bit to the Pineid bus station above the Santa Maddalena village for a direct (mini) bus.
There are two small churches at very photogenic spots on the way, so it's a nice walk instead of waiting for the connection.
Bus back: Pineid bus station – Passo delle Erbe /Würzjoch (1987 m): 7:48-16:48: 1h.
The bus did not go exactly on time. Neither the schedule printed on the bus stop nor than Google Maps schedule. It might be wise to be there a couple of minutes in advance.
Back via Santa Maddalena to a bus
5.9 h: 12.8 km 760 m up over 2600 m 1350 m down (3.5 h moving)
