Refugi d'Amitges via Restanca & Colomèrs
2. day sidetrip: Montardo (2833 m)
1.3 h: 3 km 320 m up over 2830 m 320 m down
Worth the views, easy to climb, just a hike.
Montardo peak (2833 m) ascent
The first hut, Refugi de la Restanca, is easily accessible from the valley even after a 4 h drive or 6 h bus ride from Barcelona which makes it a good hut for the first overnight.
We had a lunch at Refugi de Colomèrs and continued further to Refugi d'Amitges for a longer day. It might be nice to climb above the lake Estanh Major de Colomèrs if you have more time to spend around or even take a longer route through the Refugi de Saboredo.
From Arties bus to parking
5.1 km 250 m up 10 m down (1.5 h moving)
You can choose whether to walk there from Arties the first day or keep it for the last if you need time to drive to the area.
1. day: Rifugio Restanca
2 h: 5 km 630 m up (1.5 h moving)
2 .day morning: Refugi de Colomers
8 km 650 m up over 2565 m 520 m down
2. day afternoon:. Refugi d'Amitges
2.8 h: 8.6 km 530 m up over 2600 m 300 m down
What's nearby:
3. day: Refugi Josep Maria Blanc
4.7 h: 15 km 830 m up over 2700 m 873 m down
Most of the path down to the Refugi Ernest Malafré is easy to walk. There are 2 paths to choose from. The whole hike is so beautiful that the two waterfalls around are actually not even the top highlights:)
There is a short part with a bit of scree below the last pass, Collada de Monestero (2716 m), but the path in the scree is easy to walk even in light shoes.
The view of the lake Estany Tort de Peguera with the Refugi Josep Maria Blanc in the last pass is just breathtaking. Hard to photograph how beautiful the open view is.
4. day: Espot descent & bus back
1.7 h: 7.5 km
Quite a quick descent on a wide track.
The last Alsa bus went at 18:15 (2023) and it takes 1 h to get from Espot to Arties.
3. day: Pic de Peguera (2983 m)
0.8 h: 1.4 km 210 m up over 2983 m 210 m down
The last 20 m involve a bit of climbing (level II) over big granite rocks. You need to use your hands and respect the rule of 3 stable points while climbing.

The huts are quite close to each other and the valley, so you are flexible enough to start anywhere in any direction and merge days, skip huts, or sleep on each of them, doing side-trips according to your taste or conditions.
Huts
Huts are open from March or April to October or November. Some huts open earlier than others.
Book the huts online up front; they can be pretty busy.
Most of the huts do not accept credit cards.
There is an option to buy a lunch package on top of the half-pension or just overnight.
Network and navigation
The mobile signal is roughly just on the 1/3 of the hike. Sometimes on a pass, sometimes even nearby some of the huts. But expect to be offline most of the time.
Emergency calls or mountain rescue are possible through the huts (save their numbers) or through 112.
The route is easy to follow and there are planty escape routes to the valley. We used just mapy.cz app with maps downloaded to offline on couple of redundant phones.
Cartogràfic Institut offers free downloadable detailed topo maps.
Carros de Foc
We did just a half from the circuit. And there is even plus version to overnight on another hut.
More info on the official site of the Carros de Foc circuit.
