We had quite rainy weather. The Ausangate was all the time covered in clouds. At least we had a nice views of Hatun Uma (6093m).

Getting there

3 h by public bus to Tinky from the Coliseo Cerrado Casa de la Juventud stadium in Cusco.

Alternative itineraire with a visit of a Rainbow mountain.

When to go

Climate: dry season: May to October (colder, risk of snow in passes), rainy season: November to April (muddy).

Most popular: April to October.

Acclimatization and water

The first night is already above 4000, so you have to be properly acclimatized before.

The water is available on the trek, but it must be treated by UV light or chemicals. We used a treatment based on silver (Sanosil DDW) that does not affect a taste much. On the 2nd day the water is the most sparse.
