Le Gîte d'étape around Pic du Clapier du Peyron (3169 m)

An technically easy but long 2-d hike bellow almost 4k peaks.

The refuge is below Le Pavé (3823 m) and right over the pass there is Meije (3983 m), but the highest peaks of Écrins  Dôme de Neige des Écrins (4015 m) & Barre des Écrins (4102 m) aren't yet not in sight. They remain for the next visit.

Refuge du Pavé (2841 m)

Le Gîte d'étape means stopover lodge. And there is a beautiful one in a picturesque hamlet Valsenestre en Valjouffrey.

La Grave means serious or severe. Or the name could also be derived from the old French word "grave", which refers to gravelly soil. Let's not think about the English meaning, at least before the visit:)

There are more huts to tour around in the region both for weekend trips or more serious climbs.
