A rocky, 4-day hut-to-hut hike around the Dachstein massif, where megalodon fossils from the Jurassic epoch are carved into stones sculpted by 200 million years of history.
The hike meanders along the Dachstein's gentle northern slopes, a stark contrast to the dramatic southern face plunging over a thousand meters towards Ramsau, and to the numerous dolomite-like spires and peaks of the elongated Gosau Ridge that drop precipitously towards Gosausee.
Expect exposed sections secured by fixed ropes along the way, with the most difficult ones on the northern edge of the massif.
More experienced hikers with the glacier and klettersteig equipment can ascend to the Hoher Dachstein peak (2995 m) itself via glacier and via ferratas.
