This was an extreme and a clear miss
The whole area had changed by a huge volcanic erruption.
We followed old instructions before that happened.
It was supposed to be an easy 4 h hike to hot springs. It took us 11 hours to get there through a devastated "moonscape" covered by a thick layer of volcanic dust only to discover that even the hot springs got covered by a (still hot) lava.
We had to climb 500 altitude meters down just to get a water and overnight in our tent on a volcano dust. And the other day we had to go the same way back.
It was an extremely demanding hike without water through volcanic gorges. The whole landscape changed. The errupting volcano even moved a river one valley further.
I do not share any instruction other than just the hike to the crater, because it is not wise to follow our mistake:)
